Happy Thanksgiving,

It’s a father son project for my broke teacher son. They don’t pay teachers much here in California.

I say, father son project, I’ll get Tyson to clean up the parts that go into the Evaporust.

The table/platen is in bad shape. I could fabricate one out of 1/2” plate or I guess I could braze the cast iron pieces back on.
I haven’t brazed anything in a long time. I’m actually more comfortable making one.
It doesn’t have to be cast right?

Used parts for these are rare and very expensive.
I’m not in to this very much and would like to keep it that way.
I have the top covers and someone made a side cover. I found the back cover on eBay for $25.

I’ll change the bearings although the bottom roller spins very smooth.
Not sure about the motor yet, it’s wired for 220, I’ll have to change that as my son doesn’t have 220 in his shop.

I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Also, if you have one of these, I would like you to see if your motor is 3,750 or 1,750?
Pulley sizes? These have been changed.
Thank you

Wow, must be saved! The table support arm I would feel very comfortable brazing and the same for the threaded boss of the table. The table top it's self is broke? Laminate a steel plate to the top?

Just the mounting dogs on the pivot assembly.
Fortunately I have an extra base with a good shaft.
The only issues I can see after a quick tear down, clean, de-rust, repair the platen mounts and change the upper bearings.
I'll probably recrown the drums and see what I can do the the belt backing platen, it has a hollow in the lower one third.
The serial numbers put the black base at 1959. The one I won't use due to wear is 1948.
I'll show more pics.

Some pics.
The two pics of the keyed shaft show the worn base and the one I’ll use.
I’m encouraged.

+1 on the 1750

I'd try to save that table. Plunge with large endmill to remove cracked boss, then braze in steel insert. If you're going to make a table, it can be anything you want/have. Cast iron was cheap, minimizing machining labor. Later, cast aluminum was used (on the Craftsman anyway). I wanted a second table for the disc on my Craftsman, ended up making a simple one from some aluminum channel leftover.

Very cool. I love the look to it.

For the platen, get the ceramic glass platen, and JB weld it to the original platen using the JB to fill the void. :dunno:

Those are some quite complex castings, I like it!
