I’m noticing that even after I leveled my lathe, it’s cutting a little bit of a taper. Was wondering if I may have set my level on the wrong part of my bed. My ways are in the picture. Where should I place my level on these kind of ways?

Don't forget the tailstock to headstock alignment. Moving the tailstock laterally is one way to get a taper, and many do that intentionally.

I will check the tail stock alignment. Not sure if the headstock can be aligned to the ways on my machine. I have heard of putting the level on the cross slide but wasn’t sure if that was accurate or not. I appreciate all the input

the method that I use is to level the bed by placing the level on the carriage or cross slide. Then do a two collar test. Then align the headstock to remove any taper.

I will have to see if I can find that information
