Is my new boring bar defective?

Personally, unless, (or until) you need to use that particular bar, I would leave it as is, apart from checking clearances and rake. You might find its just the right shape for some future job.

I recently bought a few "imports" cheapies.... For the most part, they were OK, one of them, when I pealed the coating off the carbide came with it. I had to re-braze it back on and touch it up a bit.
