Youtube is painful these days.

Ad blocker is not working. I've downloaded new youtube ad blockers and still sit here for 3:50, the 5:30, then :15 .. I get about 1 or 2 minutes then this stupid cycle of 9 minutes of ads. They are killing me, no, youtube is killing it.. Shortly I'll have to stop watching and go to something else if I can't see these without ads. 9 minutes is just ludicrous.

Interesting. I don't use an ad blocker but recently something has changed when I'm watching YT. Usually at the beginning of the video an ad will start. The progress indicator will run across the screen in a few seconds then a little indicator pops that says " skip". I know where this will pop up and already have the mouse poised. Click it and the video starts. There are a few videos that will insert one more ad which works the same way.
I don't know that I have changed anything but I'm really happy about this change.

To be fair, I run a series of YT adblockers and have no issues with YT either on firefox or Chrome though the extensions do differ a little, they ostensibly do the same thing. Yes I run "youtube" specific add-ons (extensions) alongside other extensions I do not care to list.

On Firefox I use AdblockPlus and had never Issues under windows. But maybe the advertising outside of Europe is more aggressive?


On my Phone I installed YouTube Revanced and on my TV SmartTube.

I'm getting a minimum of 2x adds at the start of a video , some combination of skip'able and non skip'able.

Most annoying is if I instantly jump to a point in a video say midway through , I trigure another two advert burst.

I haven't had any long sequence of non skippable adds so far , maximum of about 45's mostly. Sometimes if it's a very long non skipable add I refresh the page and I get a shorter advert.

They have been doing a lot of anti add blocker stuff for a while. It could be punishing you if it detects the ad block perhaps ?.

I think it might be more so in the US than europe at the moment.

My experience is the same as Larry$, I haven’t come across any ads longer than maybe 30 seconds that were not skippable. I have seen an uptick in more shorter, non-skippable ads on some channels.

I use uBlockOrigin on Firefox and haven't seen a YT ad in years, except the little popup that says "We're reimagining profit, would you like to send us money?" - which is readily dismissed.

I skip all this by being too lazy to bother with adblockers and too tired to care overmuch about privacy worries.

I just pay Google for Premium YouTube and have done. In addition to not having to put up with adverts, I also get the extra perks from the subscription.

Not saying that's the only, or even most optimal solution but eh, it works for me.

I know we got used to all these services being free back in the day, but Google have to pay their bills (particularly their electric bill! ) somehow. Eh, that's capitalism for you.
