I'm tired of changing tools so its time to get some dedicated tool holders. I have an Aloris AXA tool post and would like to find some turning/facing tool holders - AXA 250-101. Doesn't have to be Aloris. Let me know what you have.

Thanks
Rick

I have AXA tool holders from a number of Asian manufacturers. I would say that the Shars ate the best for quality and finish although the most recent ones were dirt cheap on eBay and I have found no problems with them. Some complain about the poor quality set screws on Asian QCTP's but that hasn't been my experience. The worst ones that I bought regarding fit and finish were from Grizzly but they function even so. These are the 101 style tool holders. and I have a dozen.

Thanks - I appreciate youyr comments and experience. I have seen groups of 5 on Ebay for $45 - I may try them. 5 is about what I need right now.

I have several types, all imports. My favorites are the Phase II that came with one of my lathes,. Recently I tried Accusize on Amazon and find them to be very good.

So I see there are 101 and 102 with the 102 having a groove for round tools. Am I right that a 102 is more versatile because it can handle round shank tools as well as square shank tools?

Yes . 102 is more versatile as it can hold square or round tools .

One issue with the 102 style is if you want to use a square bit smaller than 3/8", it will rock as they can't span the groove.

Not really an issue as an installed shim will cover the V .

True. In fact, I use a shim for 1/8" bits on both the 101 and 102 to keep them centered under the set screws.AXA Shim.JPG
