I got the 17/32's drill bit today and finished up the cross slide nut for my Clausing 5913 lathe. I could not ask for a better fit between the screw and the nut. As you can see I put a .0005 indicator on it and measured the slop and it is exactly .001 back lash. I love using my older than dirt tools. I have a brand new still in the box Mitutoyo tents indicator but I believe in using what the pioneers used when I can. All of the critical measurements that I have been taking on the rebuild of this lathe have been using this indicator and Brown and Sharp tenths micrometers. I have a matched set of ,000 to .1.000 the 1.000 to 2.000 and 2.000 to 3.000 with the tenths scale on them. Getting used to them over the Starrett mics took some time but the 1-2 Starrett that I have does not have the 10ths scale on it. I've actually got 2 projects going at the same time. This cross slide lead screw and adapting an old Logan 4-Way Tool post . Today I did not go out to the shop until around 7 pm because of the heat. it was still 102 F . I'm pretty sure today we busted at least 108 degrees F. So here is a video and a few pictures documenting todays work. Thanks for stopping by.
