What's Wrong With This Picture?

these were my toasters when i was a kid. They hung each side of the fire place. They hang in my lounge now but no open fireplace.

The muffin man came round every friday about 4-5pm ringing his hand bell selling fresh crumpets which we toasted on the open fire in the lounge.

As the old saying goes " Nowt wrong wi' a bit o' bread n drip' "

Grew up on it, still love it even now. Drives my missus nuts when I save the bacon drip, or any other meat fats. She refuses to go near my "fat dish" in the fridge, thinks it is disgusting. I think she is wrong.

What else was there? oh yes, Sugar Sandwiches. Bread that is well buttered, with sugar generously sprinkled into it. Then there were crisp sandwiches as well as pizza toast.

I won't get into the toasted sandwiches made in a Brevell sandwich maker or think about bread pudding for that matter.....

That, in the UK, is known as "fried bread". Damn tasty when cooked in bacon dripping (dripping = meat fats).

You guys also turned me onto the Bacon butteh.

I was watching a show about some guy living on a long boat and they stopped at a pub that served these for people on their way to work.

Another variant I got from a Haitian coworker is The school boy, which is a bacon butteh on a fried croissant, holy hell…

What sort of wood did you burn? In my neck of the woods it would all have been some soft evergreen that would have contaminated the flavor of anything cooked over it. (Coals excepted)
