What type of Mill would compliment a SouthBend Lathe in a Home Workshop?

Too funny, I just brought home my new mill today and snapped a pic with the SouthBend behind it. Was looking to post something about the new G0704s but this place is just as good as any :)

Having to break it all down to get it home by myself I was prepared to do the 3 bolt mod but surprisingly it shipped with the mod already done.
I can see why people recommend a larger second hand mill. There are a few issues that bugged me but nothing major, mostly fit and finish things. Did have to re-tap a couple of holes on the base since they were rolling threads. But given how scarce second hand knee mills are in these parts and a project deadline this would have to do. Fully expect to apply elbow grease as needed and hope to replace it with something more fitting in the future. The work shop is only 12x20 and has to share with the lawn equipment and wood working tools. So regarding space and budget, think it was the right pick for now.

Nice i like my G0704 and I am only waiting for a tramming tool so i can get to making some parts. Did you have to take the colum off the bed when you set it up if so did you tram or check to see if you had different readings?

What's the 'three bolt mod' for the G0704, I haven't heard of that one.

Dennis,
I did take the column off the bed but haven't trammed it yet. A former die and tool maker from work is going to help me square everything all up in a few days.

7HC,
Here is a link to the mod. It describes it better than I could.

Something else I would like to add. I am going to cnc the machine and it would be a sin to cut and hack up on an older machine.

I have a G0704 and realy like it alot it does every thing I ask of it. I added the power feed and Igaging scales wich makes it alot nicer but if you are going cnc that is even better.

If you want to do a little work , a small horizontal hardinge and add a M-head to it might be a good choice.
