What Red Flags Do You See?

I’d pass too finding out he’s just turning stuff. If it’s an actual established equipment dealer that has been around a while that’s different in my mind. But not some guy looking to make a buck.

yeah.. that's my inclination, he's a flipper..

I'm inclined to ask for references in a situation like this. But there are millions of used machines in the world. Inevitably, the moment you got this one home, you'll be offered something better for less. A guy I work with paid 150 bucks for a Sydney lathe. Pretty worn out, and lots of ugly. But also cheap and operating. Another guy got his lathe for free from a farmer. And I know three different guys that got theirs free from factories! I haven't had that experience yet, but I'm holding out hope. Lol

Ain’t that the truth. This realization haunts me as it’s happened all to often. But one thing this forum has taught me is those millions of used machines are not distributed evenly. Some places you can’t kick a tree without a lathe falling out. Others they are rare as hen’s teeth. But I agree, patience is a virtue and getting in a hurry and settling often leads to buyers remorse.

This guy sure knows the right thing to say that he’s selling ready to go machines, not projects. But if he has no real lasting presence his word is suspect. He might be on the level and he might be selling a pig inna poke. Whatever dood…..

I thought yellow controls are often used on machines in schools?

In any case you'll be better off buying a well cared for machine from a hobbyist even if it costs a bit more. Patience, and having cash on hand when the right thing comes along will serve you well. If you pay a fair price for something in good condition then you don't have to worry that something else will present itself later. Buy it if you have the inclination, cash and space then you can "flip" it to one of us....

they are trying to get 1970.00 for it right now
Mrwhoppie posted one in bay area, 3 hp with DRO for 1000.00, motor hums...likely someone trying 3 ph motor on 1 ph power or bad motor, a steel either way.

Round ram over 1000 is a bit steep unless lots of tooling and in a dry area.
