What job did you do today in your shop?

Checked the accuracy of the DRO on my mill with an indicator and gage blocks. The X axis was within 0.0005” in 9.000” and Y was off by 0.0045” in 7.000”. Adjusted the error compensation and now both axis are good.

Added a box under my saw to hold material. The box was full of drops of mostly 1018 CRS and 6061 AL that I got from work.

The saw wasn’t cutting straight, so I adjusted the guides and made a few test cuts to dial it in.

Moved crap into the basement from the garage and got stuff ready to up to Cabin Fever , That sun goes down and my feet freeze quickly .

Groan. Ok, so the powers that be at Nissan decreed that there shalt not be sunshades that slide AND have a slide out. Especially not on Leafs.
Nuts to that, said!
I bought a selection of sunshades in the right-ish color and with slide outs. Removing the OEM one was painful, due to a stripped self tapping bolt. This led to the OEM shade loosing a bolt hole on the way out... one shade fit fine, and went in...
Actually, this shade did not slide, it JUST had a slide out. Worse than stock

There was gratuitous tooth nashing associated with opening multiple shades. Then an unholy grafting operation resulted in a shade that slid, slide out, and had a working lighted mirror.
Then I found that the donor mount has a larger tapered hinge hole. Adjustments were made. Then, on that celebrated day, I went for an install!

And found out that Nissan had changed the bolt pattern AND hook location. Then I boogered two rivet nuts by putting 10-24 screws into 10-32 holes.

But, I'm happy-ish with the final result!

Just short of 4-1/2 panels to finish covering the walls. But everything that was needed to be covered, for the company to finish the electrical work, is done. I called them and left them voicemail and email asking for when they are coming back to finish the job.

With this panel installed I can also install the jack-shaft door openers.

Only that section pending. Will get the panels and finish this over the week.

Let me get this right :
Your thinking / betting the contractor will actually show on the 22nd, finish the job on the 22nd, finish in time for an inspection on the 22nd, the inspector will show on the 22nd, and the final inspection will pass on the 22nd? Friday the 22nd? Friday the 22nd before thanksgiving?

I got to spend more time in church, I obviously ain’t living right……..

I don't remember (and that latter word means you should probably assume I'm wrong!:big grin:) reading that @wachuko had any previous troubles with his contractors on this build.

Perhaps the sparky he's employed is one of the very rare ones who turns up on time, finishes on time, and does an excellent job. In my experience, sparkys do seem to be more on the job than builders, plasterers or plumbers.

(And don't talk to me about plasterers! Yeah I know it's a skilled job, but they're not fekkin' Michaelangelo or Rodin. I swear to God, they all seem to think their work should be in the Tate Gallery!)

My sparky, despite being a fairly grumpy bugger, is actually a delight to have found. He's never late, always hits his job time estimates and he'll suggest and even sometimes recommend cheaper, better courses of actions.

One time he was here, he mentioned he'd just finished sorting out a 3ph supply install at a local farm, and when I asked him if it might make sense to have 3ph to my workshop, he looked at me, shook his head, and pointed to my mini lathe and bench mounted mill/drill, laughed and said incredulously "What? For those?" When I said about replacing my mini lathe with proper old iron that might be 3ph. He shrugged and just said "Not worth the money you'd spend; just get an inverter or phase converter".

As for the inspection, maybe @wachuko has pictures of someone at the municipal offices in a gimp suit!

They have been great and on time. They get here at 8am and the inspector usually comes in the afternoon. That friday, they should be done by then. All they have left is to install the outlets, switches and respective covers... oh, and install the lights/lamps outside.

Also, due to code, any outside/detached building must use GFCI breakers. They have to swap all the breakers for GFCI units. That is quick as well.

So yeah, it should all be done that day.

Worked on the new back plate for my Bison 4 jaw.
Took about .1950" off the OD to match the OD of the chuck and about .158" from the overall thickness on the hub end.
Only had about 2 threads engaged on the spindle originally.
It engages about 1/2 of the threads, .40" now, before bottoming out on the spindle now.
There are 1.04" of threads
Wondering If I should take a bit more off the hub end so I engage 1/2 of the threads??
Overall thickness now is at 1.382"

Next up will be to cut the register to fit the chuck, and indicate the holes to be threaded which I am not really looking forward to at all
