What Did You Buy Today?

The second tool holder from the left... what size is the shank? I've been looking for one with a small shank... it looks like a bigger shank, though. That takes VPGR inserts, in case you didn't know...

It's ¾" wide and tall. It says "NVLCR-123B NL0" on the side.

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't totally sure what that insert was.

Yep... that's the one I'm looking for...

If you decide to sell it, let me know...

...but I would advise you to keep it. I really like the VPGR inserts.

I'll definitely let you know! I should pick up some more inserts so I can give it a proper assessment.

We use a LOT of the VPGR 331 and 332 with the kc5010 and kc730 grade inserts at work on the big vertical lathes. I bought a holder with a 1-¼" shank off ebay and cut it down on the shaper... it works great on smaller conventional lathes, also.

I have the one holder... would still like another, though.

I would like to think that I am investing in my welding and machining skills with these purchases:

Flux for gas welding aluminum:

I bought another one of these. These are very high quality for the price:

Self-explanatory PPE:

Both of the goggles above fit over prescription eyewear. I need to wear at least 2.25X glasses when I weld or machine.

I was out running my weekly errands this morning and stopped in at a junk store. I've never been in that store before, but a while back they had a blower for a forge sitting outside the door, so I stopped in to see if they had anything else interesting.

I left with a box of junk, including:

A small coping saw, only marked 'Germany'...

A Defiance/ Stanley No.1220 hand drill...

A Millers Falls No. 5A hand drill...

A Millers Falls No. 120B breast drill...

And two hand planes, one is a Worth, the other is a Crusader...

I don't have any idea what all this is worth, but I gave $45 for the box.

The same shop also has a Shop Smith for sale... it was back in a corner with a lot of 'stuff' piled around it, but looked to be in good condition with several attachments. The only attachments that I identified in addition to the headstock was a tablesaw attachment and a woodworking tool rest. He priced it at $150. I didn't buy it, but I'm thinking about going back and looking closer at it... I've been thinking about tinkering with some wood turning. Is $150 a decent price?
