What Did You Buy Today?

Both nice machines, and nice sizes for different types of work. The great majority of work is done up close to the chuck anyway. Though it is good to have the extra length, and swing when you need it. Mike
I wasn't actually looking for a machine this big. just wanted something more ridged and with a bigger hole thru the spindle. kept an eye out for months and this happened to pop up.

So I won a couple of lots at an engineering auctions recently. I went to pick them up yesterday.

One was a small lot of keyless drill chucks and a little 3" drill press vice:

A couple of Bisons, a Jacobs and an Albrecht. That was £30 odd.

The other lot appeared to be a small collection of plastic stock. When I phoned up to arrange collection, they suggested that I bring a van as they admitted that they mistakenly ommitted to put all the pictures of the stock up on the website. I paid £23 for the lot. Here it is:

Where the hell am I going to put this plastic?:eek:o_O

I'd say you did very well.

Of course they're all different Jacobs tapers but that's what Morse adapters are for. The nicest, tidiest, smoothest feeling of them is the little Jacobs 1-13mm. The big Bison feels very nice too. The smaller Bison is fine but there is a very slight bit of tightness. Unfortunately, I've just discovered the Albrecht is seized. I'll feed it some penetrating oil over a few days and see how it goes.

I also got an ISO40-J6 adapter into the bargain, managed to tap that off the big Bison and it'll go on eBay.

You're right and I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that, but I was expecting a couple of 2' square boxes!

I'll go through it all, clean it up, maybe cut some of the most scrappy, irregular shaped pieces to a more regular shape.

Some will end up on eBay and maybe there'll be a bit going to the hard plastics section at the recycling centre.

I just don't have the storage space for all of that and I suspect that even if I did, it would be unlikely I'd use it all up! ;)

I've taken one of my Albrecht's apart and it was pretty easy. there are several YouTube's on doing it.
