What Did You Buy Today?

Could have not said it better myself if I tried... I was even hearing the background music rising into a crescendo as I read it...

Where credit is due:

To be fair, there is usually a limit. It starts like Alexander the Great, when King Darius said, "My son, ask for thyself another kingdom, for that which I leave is too small for thee." And so Alexander went forth and conquered Asia Minor. And Wachuko followed, by building the dream shop in Ocala!
...
And sometimes, after the dust settles, payments will be made at the altar of revolving credit. But we take great care when borrowing against the future as responsible hobby machinists, right?

Reminds of a quote about the business of knife making I heard somewhere:
"If I had a million dollars, I'd make knives until it was all gone."

Just bought another basket case project for future me. At least some of you will appreciate this, 1937 dodge truck.

It's a project start. Sitting (mostly) on a crown vic front end, new rear end. Body, frame and box, etc are all there.

No images now. It's sitting in a buddy's storage warehouse. It can sit there for a while. We spent a lot of Friday evenings pondering/studying/half planning it over cold beverages before he put it away a couple years back.

It was one of those, "If you ever want to sell the '37, let me know." type purchases. Sometimes you just gotta float the idea...

They recently installed 4 of these things in at work . I'm in one night and all the fire alarms went off and water was pouring down from the ceiling . A box must have jumped up out of the track and broke the fire pipe off . Took the fire dept 30 minutes to get there and then another 1-1 1/2 hours to investigate . Meanwhile the water continued to pour as we as employees cannot turn the main off . Flooded the entire side of the plant . Just another night .
If that's just another night at the plant, you have lived a very full life my friend-wink.

Uh-huh. I don't believe you... I've been watching your list of acquisitions! ;)

All kidding aside, I'm Curious how much can be saved by building a home build unit vs. something purchased.
For example, what will the 2x72 build cost compared to this ready to go. Knock the wheel kit off the cost of below, could you build the rest of this for less?

Honestly, I do want to know how the numbers work out. I do want another one...
Looks like a clean -efficient build.
That, House guy has a nice build too. His aren't that much though. I don't think.

Oh wait Yeah these kits are the real deal $$$$!!!

That's a sweet deal.
Every garage sale I went to in the 80's had a number 5 Stanley for $5. Not anymore!!
You got that right!
The price range is from not much like this one to are you crazy more than new! I saw it sitting there, grabbed it and did not put it down until after paying for it!
Once the rust is off and the wood cleaned, it will be put to use. The blade is actually in good shape and some what sharp, no nicks. It will sharpen easily. I have dad’s Jack plane, and his rabbet plane as well.

I've got some of Dad's machinist tools. I use his 0-1"mic all the time. I hope a kid or a grand enjoy those tools and mine too. I traded some leftover parts for a new deadblow, shown next to little brother. It's the perfect hammer for smacking work in the vise. Also a set of long overdue way covers. That's dress rehearsal, but you get the idea.IMG_20230824_195711.jpgIMG_20230824_201514.jpgIMG_20230824_195711.jpg
