Vice help

Years ago I took delivery of a brand new Triumph TR6 which I ordered from Great Britain through Reedman in Langhorne PA. The owners manual explained everything, just as it should. The terms were a bit off, such as "raising the bonnet to check the engine oil" and using petrol of the correct grade. The book was correct in every aspect, it was me who had to learn new terms. Didn't hurt one bit either.

Well done ! You have the right positive attitude which proves common sense will prevail. Good luck ...

Since my comment seems to have upset a few here I will attempt to explain what I said better, and hopefully clarify this a bit.
As the spelling of vise and vice is universal and intechangable I dont think it is helpful to offer nothing to the OP's question but a point about spelling that is neither here nor there, or for that matter, relevant. I do agree George, and others, that correct spelling is important but there is a vast difference between 2 dictionary spellings, where either is correct, and incorrect spelling of a part that may be something else or different. How would the majority of members here, as most are North American, feel if every time one of you posted about your aluminum projects, a UK or Australian member corrected you on the spelling of aluminium. Both are interchangable, and correct.
I dont believe I called Georges' post petty, but rather that if anything it was a petty spelling error at best.
We promote this forum as being friendly, and as I stated in my 1st post here, pointing out a minor spelling error, that did not in any way mislead as to what the OP was asking about, and offer nothing further in return was being less than friendly, or helpful.

Cheers Phil

Thank you. There is a quote somewhere, by Mark Twain I believe, about being stupid depending on where you are standing when you say the stupid thing, familiar ground or not. If I find it, I will post it. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Dear Blackhawk,

I was wondering have you done any tests or removed the hard jaw and checked under it for trash yet?
Sometime those tapped holes pull a thread up a few thousands, so it would not hurt to check under there and stone it again.

Sorry about the spelling debate, but some of us are new here and we needed to air the issue. I think we all learned from it.

The bottom line is I am curious to know what is going on with your problem that you asked for our help with. It is a puzzle we all want to know what the answer is

You need to find someone with a horizontal surface grinder with coolant and have them shim it and then put a light mag on the chuck and clean grind one side taking small .0002" passes until it cleans up 80%. Then flip it over and set it down on the mag and turn it on full and grind it and when it is done flip it over and finish it. They need to shim it or when they mag it down it will twist the jaw and when the release the mag it will be bent. A good grind shop should be able to grind it in less then a 1/2 hour.
