Trepanning Job? Not sure

Another option is chain drilling a ring of holes leaving a small web between themto try and keep the drill hole running true, then with a suitable length endmill plunge cut the webs away. I did this not long ago to remove a 2 1/2 inch disc from some 3/4 plate. The hole and slug obviously need cleaning up on the mill or lathe.

That would work. Then bore to size right?
 
Trying to trepan that deep is not for the faint-of-heart. If you do make it through, the slug will break your tool when it comes free and binds in the hole.
Never thought of the flying slug, scary business that.
 
Would probably chatter like no one's business, but you could try a hole saw from one side, flip then finish from the other. After bore to size.
