It is a shoulder to meet the inner race of the bearing. Diameter is 0.679"
The end cap threads were 32tpi.

OK, that makes sense.
I need to buy the bearings first or know the specs before I proceed.
Just got back from my bearing supply in town. Never again! They know nothing.
I'll just call McMaster and order my bearings.
32 TPI? You didn't use standard fine threads i see. I guess it doesn't matter as long as the end caps do the job.

The Machinists Handook says, "If radial load without thrust, the inner race should have a light driving fit on the shaft and be securely clamped against a shoulder by a nut or clamping device. The outer race of a bearing subjected to a radial load only should fit closely in it's retaining box or housing, But Free to float.""
I guess the end caps center the cylinder to the shaft.
This should be a fun project and look at what I'm learning along the way!!
