Tool Grinder Wheel/Grit recommendation

CBN is a great wheel for HSS. The hub removes a lot of heat from the tool you are grinding. So it remains cool longer. It doesn't wear down like a stone. Although you need a stick to remove the meta stuckl in the grain. Never use CBN for soft metals.. Only Hard

What kind of stick do you use to remove HSS from CBN?

I chucked up my most wobbly (china wobbles) CBN wheel and hub in the mill and plunged it into an india stone to true it up and dress it, which was slow but worked. I don't remember where I learned that, probaby youtube.

cbn will cut right through an india stone. it may clean the cbn. but I don't think it will true it up.

In general, yes, but the india stone gets into the resin and does wear that away in a slow and controllable manner. The remaining finish leaves the CBN abrasive proud. India stones are consumables and can be bought from Norton at 50 to the box. If a cheap wheel has .003 of wobble no matter how you mount it, that's a good fix. Took a wheel that was frustrating to use and made it right.

I agree with pontiac428, I bounced a CBN wheel and chipped it, after some advice I dressed it with an old carborundum stone, softer the better I think. Here are before & after pics
