Good day all! I am missing an octal relay on my 1983 Tida lathe. My lathe is currently 240v single phase. I have looked for a replacement but only find 110v relay. I can’t find a schematic. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be a reduced voltage circuit. I have had some help on the forums here, but it seams they I bought a unicorn lathe. I am ok with electrical and electronics, but not great. Would l would appreciate any help!

Do you still have the old one by chance, and are you able to get any numbers off of it? That is the best way for sure.

These things are out there, but they're on older stuff, certainly not front page stuff at the search engines. They were kinda meant to retrofit vacuum tubes.

Short of getting numbers, you're going to have to investigate the machine wires (live) and the old relay (possibly but hopefully not dissected). First of all, is it eight pin, or is it the 11 pin ones that are almost universally called "octal" for no justifiable reason that anyone has ever come up with...

You need to know the control voltage, I think the control amperage, the load amperage, and what each of the relays are doing, NO, NC, etc...

Control systems are often 120v.
Generally speaking, a control transformer is the source for control voltage because the control power is isolated from the main source.
A picture of the control panel would be helpful for troubleshooting

The octal relay was missing

No relay 8 pin

Tc: Check the last thread about your Tida basket case
I did a sketch for your drum switch hookup

Omron octal base relays have pins 1 & 8 for the common contacts, 2 & 7 are the coil, 3 & 6 are the normally open contacts, and 4 & 5 are the normally closed contacts. Somewhere, I have some P & B relays and if I can find them, I'll check their pinout.

I have the whole control box for Tida lathe. If you’re interested I can open it up and take a picture.

I switched my lathe over to 3 phase with a VFD so not even sure why I still have it.
