Thread Triangles

Can anyone out there in machine land explain what thread triangles are and how to use them? Newbie Here with an inquiring mind... I saw them in a victornet catalog.

Heres a link I found as I never heard of them. Seems they are just thread mics with two pointed anvils verse one point and one groove anvil

The triangles are not a part of the micrometer. They are used instead of wires.
