South Bend 415-YC - Price check on aisle 3

Judging from the change gears in the box and the other pictures.
I would say 2000.00 is not that far fetched.
If the way condition is good I think you have a no fiddle machine that you can add a quick change gear box to.
Guys on here will spend alot of time shopping for a deal on a machine then rebuild it, looks like you might be a step ahead.

Bring your friend Benjamin. You might just fall in love.

FWIW, I’m keeping my Seneca Falls Star with the taper attachment and no QCGB. Didn’t even know what one was when I bought it back in ‘03 for $300.

just to be clear. it's not just a qcgb, it's a lead screw, it's a new apron, its the support for the lead screw at the TS end.
It's drilling the bed for the qcgb, and lead screw support.

I guess you need to find out what "complete restoration" actually means. If it means a paint job, a motor and
a belt, then it seems a bit over priced. The taper attachment is a bonus (if you think you need it), but purchasing
another chuck, faceplate, QCTP, etc. will add significant cost. Did he say if the change gears are a complete set?
And of course, how much wear and condition of spindle bearings? At $1500.00, that lathe would be more appealing.

Complete set of gears, correct. I did ask about the condition of the ways, and he said they were good... but that would have to be checked of course. Did not ask about the condition of the spindle bearings... good point.

No way I am bringing my wallet... I know me too well to do that!

That is a lot of work that will price it out of my budget quickly. I am not going through that trouble...

I am still looking for a similar one but with a QCGB... I think I found one, even closer to where I live... I will call the seller tomorrow to see it... Only one photo and I can't tell squat from it... and not much of a description... just to call if interested... Looks like a place that sells used equipment...

If I can see it tomorrow and everything checks out, I will call and cancel my trip to the one I started this thread for...

All of which can be purchased and Retrofitted to the machine.

is that a 9 or 10? to me it looks like a 10k
that has the large dials a plus...
its an A model meaning it has the gear box, but also cross slide feed ...
I can't tell if it's driven underneath or behind..
Does it have a threading dial?
3 jaw chuck?
collet set /draw bar?
36 or 48 inch bed?
tooling?

All the questions that I will be asking tomorrow morning to the seller :D;)

It does look like a South Bend 10K Bench Top Model A-CL670R... From that photo, I can almost make out the drive system in the back...
