Sons of Guns

Show name was "Dream Machines"

I don't shoot anymore. I competitively shot smallbore rifle (prone to be exact) for 20 years. Those idiots make gunsmiths look bad. Not everyone wants a suppressor or 30 round mags. Karl Kenyon gunsmithed into his 90's. Built Olympic gold medal winning rifles and the best damn triggers in the WORLD. That's not an exaggeration either. I had one of his triggers on a Winchester 52e and it was beautiful. Everything is all long gone and sold. I miss it some days( the shooting and the friendships). I did however win 4 Illinois State smallbore championships and made dozen of friends. I can't understand the drama, the blowing up everything and the one guy grinding while another is assembling 5 feet away from each other. Mr. Kenyon has passed but I'd find another 90 year old gunsmith before I would have them clean my barrel. Which by the way they would probably do from the muzzle end anyway without a Dewey rod. Sorry if I got off track and I'll probably never post much on this section of the site.

pipehack: age is no guarantee of expertise. I sent a hand varnished violin I made to a pretty old guy so he could try it out. The violin was very carefully rubbed all over. He took the violin to an "80 year old expert". The old fool thought my violin had been "sprayed with polyurethane". That really ****** me off. I told that idiot to send the violin back immediately. Sold it to someone who had the sense to appreciate it. The person had looked at violins from New York to Va.,and said he had not found ones to match it.

I was Master Musical Instrument Maker in Colonial Williamsburg, founding the shop in 1970. I had been building since 1954. I did my finest work when I was in my 40's. That is when your eyesight and physical self are at their best. I started when I was 13. By then, you should know your trade if you ever will. Stradivari also did his best work about the same age.

Somebody can have all of the age and experience possible.
And that means exactly squat without talent and the "knack".

You are 100% correct. I'm sure there were a ton of mistakes till he got it right. I just think that show gave a lot of people a bad taste when they saw it.

I have watched this thread since its inception. I have seen many of you on here more than once. To my amazement you hate the show but you keep watching it. Why??? :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

"Billy G" :dunno:

I build guns. That is my hobby going on ten years. I seen the Sons of guns show one time. Drama and nonsense.

All these reality shows are the same way. Mostly scripted.
Can't imagine somebody talking to someone the way they do, without a pipe to the teeth as an end result.
