Vince, you are not hurting the lathe, but your sure making things difficult for yourself. I am very impressed with the finish you are achieving.
Keep in mind that the 101 has an undersized spindle and is pretty springy. That coupled with no outboard support and the fact you are pushing the saddle by hand - well, all I can say is "Hats off!"
