So help me god - Mill cleanup & Beginner advice

IMG_9596.JPG

The original setup - i cannot express how sick this picture makes me, glad i made it to home depot okay, the riggers literally just dumped it on the trailer and charged me. Live and learn - i'll be better prepared next time, i'm not seasoned, i'm just a idiot engineer that's got a serious interest in machining.

i think it's 3 phase - so i'm going to have to figure out how to get this changed over? VFD?

Here's a good recent thread for some background:

I agree that your tie-downs were inadequate. Those orange straps are undersized.

One easy suggestion for you, with a wooden deck trailer is to bring along some 4x4's and lag bolts to screw to the top of the deck around the base........at least in front to stop the thing sliding forward in an emergency stop. I'd want to do all four sides if I could.

The good news is i was able to drive and keep distance the entire trip - that thing wasn't going to move - i'm pretty sure it's 3000+ lbs.

I'll read through the thread, thanks for the help Brino!

It looks you have a very nice machine there.

There's no 'magic cleaner' - use anything that will clean it up, and make sure all residue, if any is removed.

@DustinY - You gotta admit that moving heavy things is fun!

Very fun - just a little stressful when you're as dumb as i am (it's hard not to feel dumb when you're stepping outside that comfort zone with no mentor).

I'm excited to get working on it though!

Well, the good news is that you and the mill made the trip safely. And you knew enough to drive very carefully, especially on the way to HD. Best wishes for the unload and the move-in!

It seems like the only thing you need to do to get Zeus to rain furry down from the skies is purchase a mill and get burned trying to get it offloaded with a one day delay. Thanks Arizona, lol. Don't think it rained much but i headed over to try to clean the mill up a bit as it was CAKED in oil and chips.

The calm before the storm, oh my god. I think i'm going to have to pull the table off - the zed axis travel has CAKED on grime, all of them do. It's pretty insane, the machine looks like it's never been cleaned. Just didn't want the people moving it today to think it's going to stain the garage floor - spoiler alert, it probably will LOL. I'll epoxy the floor - simple fix. I think i need degreaser....lots of degreaser.....

purple power and Varsol (low odor) is what I use...
