Ironically where I lived in rural Georgia, we had a post office about a 1/2 mile away. Several miles to the nearest gas station or store though. And there was another post office about 6 miles away.
But, the local post office had PO box service only. You had to pick up there, no curb box delivery. And if something was sent to your county road address they would return it as undeliverable. It was a real pain because many online orders (like amazon) would not commit to how they were shipping (usps vs ups). Of course ups can’t deliver to a po box. And some places, like the state for your driver’s license wanted a physical address and would then only send mail to that address.
Of course you got a free po box, but only the tiny box that was to small for a CD back in the days off netflix dvds. Or Jepps subscription. Those had to be picked up at the counter. Which was open M-F 9-4, closed for lunch. Both of us worked full time jobs. Which meant paying for a large box for things that would fit in any curbside mailbox.
Fortunately the FAA (actually all federal agencies) have a provision that they have to accept a hand drawn map in lieu of a physical address so my pilot’s license and and airplane registration, etc weren’t problematic.
There was a cost cutting round that failed to shut that po box post office down. Just stupid.
Ironically the name of the unincorporated village was Eden, Georgia. Said so on the post office too.
Glad to be free of that idiocy.
