PART 3 - The Pump (continued).

The inner cap (there are two screw caps) had a "V" shape on the back. The "V" interfered with the fit, so it was turned off to a flat surface. Here is the finished cap:

After this, the pump was reassembled.

After assembly, it was refilled with oil, primed and purged of air. Then, it was outside to mate the pump with the ram. The ram is a little sticky at the bottom of the stroke, but it should loosen up with use. I'm glad to say that there is no oil gushing out of the parts. This portapower system should now last another 30 years!

Thanks for posting this info. I have a similar unit on my "one day to fix" list that I will reference back to this content when that happens.

Thanks

I have an old orange box & orange lift needing the same - though it isn't the port-a-power version nor is it rated for 10 tons. Meanwhile, I bought a modern chineseum 10T Port-A-Power that I managed to blow out the retaining ring on the cylinder end threads & all. Another machining project that will include, at minimum, a pressure gauge. Hoping to find a preset relief valve that can be incorporated into the design as well.

Great post!!!
