You don't have to have the fixture either. You can use the jam nut and lock it in at whatever height. It's not moving after jamming them together. Should qualify with at least mine hasn't in several years.

I do use a spacer with a screw to set the height on some left-hand threading tools, upside down for threading away from the chuck. They need to be above the toolpost height to get on center.
Disagree. As @dabear3428 correctly pointed out, on some lathes the issue is not being able to get the #71 up to the height of the CL - the issue is NOT getting it lower by removing the height adjustment knob. This is from my white paper on the topic of parting operations - which includes a set of plans to make a fixture to further raise the QC Tool Holder:
