POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Finally got around to adjusting the carb on my new to me truck. Someone had the mixture screws set at full rich so it would not idle below 1,500rpm. I adjusted them then the idle and it sounds about right, still need to put a tachometer on the motor to see if it’s correct since the truck is too low of a trim to have one. I had to go and buy a 22” screwdriver to reach the one screw, the egr was in the way in that side.IMG_7396.jpegIMG_7362.jpeg
This is when I picked it up. Runs and drives, I need to adjust the TV cable and the front end is a bit loose. Not bad for 277k on a 302.

Well...I was working on a tap wrench & snapped off one of my ElCheapO needle files.
I made a broken needle file in my shop today : )

I grew up using cheap files for model making between 7yo and 11yo. I was taught by my late step-father to hold the tip of swiss files as well as the handle, never use excessive pressure, cut on the forward stroke only and never use a file like a hacksaw. Never did snap one even when I was working metal in the garage during the years we were restoring a 1935 MG PA. Never have snapped a file ever, other than the odd occasion dad left one on the floor, did not tell me and I unknowingly stepped on it..

Drill bits? now that is a different story. Plenty of "snag" breaks, where the bit snags and snaps. Found a solution to that though... Set my cordless drill to "screw" mode, lower the torque to mid-level setting and if the bit snags, it just stops the chuck. No more broken small drill bits.

I'll be making a Starrett tap wrench soon too, I like your set up for filing the V groove, I think I'll give that a try when I get to that point.
