POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

For a you Imperialists out there! I finally accumulated the appropriate size number drills and made a holder for them.

The front row is tap drills for 75% thread 4-40 to 10-32 (I don't really use coarse thread unless I am trying to match an original)
The back row is clearance drills for a "close fit". Couple of thou over.

Some time ago i com across a set of peugeot Hockenheim 17" wheel in bad shape. They are very rare and have unique look also are good offset. The seller said, they need work but they are usable, the tires two are junk two can be used. We talk about the price and at 130$ delivered i decided to take a gamble. When they arrived one tire was shredded and i could see a weld spot even thru the brake dust, cv axle grease and dirt. Took them home, de mounted the tires, the two "good" tires have chunks missing from them so they also need to go for recycling. With the warm weather i washed the rims one by one with oven degreaser and brash on a drill. Once clean i know i'm in trouble, all the rims have been painted inside and out, 3 of them have been professionally welded and machined on a lathe and have 3 new cracks and all of them are bent. I check them and they are bent on the inside only so it's easy to be straighten but when i add that i need to streighten them, weld them prep then paint them also they need centre caps, it may be just too much. I'll do some more research how much they are worthy, because someone has already done all that work in germany where its 10X more expensive.

When I first got my Clausing 8520 I ordered a Chinese boring head and shell mill . The only thing I was paying attention to was the MT2 spindle size . Well the boring head did come with the correct 3/8-16 for the drawbar but it barely threads into it which made me have to remove the captive nut , self releasing drawbar for a piece of 3/8” ready rod . The shell mill had metric thread , I did use it once with the ready rod kind of pulling it in . Today I figured I would try fixing them . The boring head was easier of the two , I cut off a little of the threaded end and prepped a 3/8-16 nut , used a bolt to keep everything aligned then welded on , the metric thread presented a problem, how to keep the nut aligned, I used a transfer punch to see what would slip through a nice tight fit , used a flange nut because it was a little thicker and took more off the end since I was using just those thread . Using the same bolt , cut the head off , threaded the nut all the way up the threads then cut what was exposed to the transfer punch size . That kept it aligned while welding . Both came out fine something I should have done long ago

You just can’t catch a break with dodgy sellers, makes me mad to read about how many disreputable people you have to deal with.

Me, I’m learning how to tell when my hot water heater is empty..72662583581__23AF3460-8233-4A10-83B3-3A62335D68BC.jpeg

Not just modeling, but large RC if my eyes don't deceive me. I instantly have the smell of glue and balsa dust going through my memory banks. Love it.

Currently a 1/3 scale (144” ws) Cub with a 1/3 scale Tiger Moth next in line. Love nitro and balsa smells……..
