POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

I drilled one freaking hole. Ok, maybe two. But I still count it as one.

Still need to put the rollers into the bottom two rectangular tubes, and notch the tubes, and build hardware to attach them together, etc. But, it's coming along.

@dkemppai - What is that cylindrical depression in your vise? What are you building? I may have missed that in another thread.

Depression in the vise, is where the nameplate used to be glued into. Cutting oil softened the adhesive and it fell out.

This is part of the carriage for a chainfall on the bridge crane. Wanted a low overhead design, so twin beams with a carriage between. It'll get the hook of the chainfall about 2-1/2 inches below the ceiling when it's done.

Modified three tie rod ends for the ongoing tractor project. You would think ag equipment would come with grease fittings, but none on old ones which were completely worn out, and none on the new ones either. Set them up on the mill, spot drilled, drilled, and tapped 1/8" npt. Had to grind down a second tap to get high enough on the tapper to get decent thread engagement. Mike

Christmas break was productive. I finally got the forge up and running...

Then used that to anneal some old farriers raspy, and started grinding them on the 2x72 I finally finished...

Then I made a set of tongs because using pliers to pick up hot metal out of the forge is both difficult and dangerous.

This weekend I hope to make a set of slotted tongs, which are more versatile, and maybe start working on my first knife.

Straightened the x axis lead screw from my mill in my 10t press. Took it slow but still overshot. Took it even slower and got it as straight as I can tell

Finally got it finished. Even painted the head spacer/riser block I made for it last summerView attachment 473188
Now I need to check tram and put the vise back on. Already feels tighter and I’m looking forward to making some test cuts!
Great job allround.

Got cart done for new shop bandsaw.

Got Kalamazoo band saw in the shop, and cleaned up a bit.

It still needs a little bit of tlc, but after an hour of adjusting blade guides, I have it cutting within probably .020” square both ways in 2x2” tube. I’ll probably play around with this a bit more. Have to see how well it holds the adjustment when blade guides are open to 20” wide cuts.

It has seen some blade running off the pulleys in the past for sure. It went thru the motor end side in one spot.

Now to start sourcing some 13’11” blades.
