POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Hey, it may have been rude of me to point it out, but I trust my cringe reflex. They always come back to thank me later, though! That was quite the engine bush you had growing there. You gotta pressure wash that sludge muff so you can see what you're working on, and to keep you from slipping your fingers into other parts while you're at it.
yeah, that's fair enough. I'll do some rounds of wipe down/ spray with engine cleaner/ wipe down. I have a pressure washer, but I'm pretty leery of putting it anywhere near things with seals/ electronics. Hopefully that'll take care of one of the leaks, but it's a near certainty that I'm not going to replace the output seals on the transmission. I wish I had realised they were leaking (getting back to your point!) when I replaced the CV axles, as it's difficult to a major exercise to replace them now.

Yeah, but your winters are pretty nice. Was in San Antonio a few years ago when the wife had a conference in October. Was real nice weather sitting along river below the Hilton having something cool to drink. IIRC we left snow to get there. Is Schilo's Cafe still open? (Was way cheaper than eating breakfast in the hotel, a few years back anyway...
Relative to Northern Minnesota sure :) It regularly gets below freezing and it's generally grey and bleh. You came in one of the two nice periods either side of "summer" - Spring 1 and Spring 2. Where it's cool enough to sit outside in the evenings and you don't burn yourself holding onto your car steering wheel.

As the joke goes "God made Texas to convince people not to go to Hell"

Wow, I do feel for you. Both hands would be killer. Fortunately (?) for me I still only have the serious contracture in the one hand and not my dominant one either, so most day to day stuff is fine. Gloves are annoying though ;). I've heard conflicting information about the genetic inheritance of the condition, and like you none of my six siblings exhibit any signs at all and they're all senior to me. One thing I always remember from early on in the early stages was my doctor saying to be careful about alcohol intake. He said a beer or two no big deal, but try to keep it at that. Don't know if there is any merit to that at all but I've quite alcohol altogether for about 10 years now anyway so no longer a concern.

Hope your hands don't get any worse.

-frank
Never heard that about alcohol intake - not that that would have been a serious issue with me. I do enjoy a good beer or glass of wine with the appropriate meal, but very rarely more than that. And I never drink liquor. Nothing against it, but I can't stand the stuff. The worst side effect that I deal with is how compromised my hand strength has become. I'm sure much of it is a consequence of age, but Dupuytren's had undoubtedly contributed to it. But that's what they make vise grips and channel locks for. Could be worse.

Regards

3" chunk of 660 bronze for the new bushing.
Will figure out the logistics of making a new one without a working lathe later.

Stock pile of bushings keeps growing. Most have been easily replicated with basic tooling.

Managed to get the apron into the warmer. 4 1/2 day weekend coming up so there might be some painting progress

165 degrees is a slam dunk here in Texas right now. I can get that in 21.375 minutes sitting in my driveway at 5am. :disillusion:

Great setup! Looking forward to seeing it assembled.
Add 80-90% humidity and welcome to New Orleans. I swear this has been the most brutal heat wave I have seen in years. I know I'm getting older, but damn... I just can't get hydrated. On a positive note, I'm through packing up my shop. Now I have to get working on building a new shop. Work never ends.

Not sure, but I think the hydration part is from getting older, and being pre-diabetic maybe. I drink water all day long. I am not diabetic, but I worry about it, since that can be a sign. Good luck on the new building. Global warming sure sucks... I miss the seasons...

I temporarily didn't want to work on any real problems, so I created a tiny one. I had some rare earth magnets with a hole through the middle, so I screwed a magnet onto the cap of several Sharpies I had...so maybe now there can be one near each machine.

Yes we have plenty humidity here, 90%. You can’t drink too much water. And if you wait till you’re thirsty, you’re behind. I agree with this summer getting off to a hot start. June produced fifteen days in the triple digit temp range. Last June was worse at twenty one days.

The next time my wife asks me why I keep buying hundreds of small magnets, I’ll show her this!

I haven't made anything in my shop today... but in less than seven hours, I get five days of uninterrupted shop time. The wife's visiting her folks, so I don't even have to leave the shop for dinner. Got a few energy drinks in the fridge and a pizza coupon, I think I'm good to go! Hmm, which of my twenty projects do I want to lean into... Ah, the dizziness of freedom.
THIS IS A CALL TO ARMS!! One of our own is at risk of sensory overload. This is a 5 day overwatch. I need volunteers to check in on John to make sure he doesn’t start too many projects as well as the usual, turns off his machines when he walks away from them, remembers to take regular potty breaks, sleeps at least 4 hours a day. We should also take extra steps such as making sure there is only coffee in his coffee.
