Pinging jumps4

here is another photo from another angle
you can see the pocket the lower wiper sits in on the lower left.
does this need to be a pocket or does the side closest to you fit flat against a surface.

also in this pic the lower wiper in sitting in a pocket that is closed from all three sides, does this side on the back need to be closed or is it flat against the machine. if this end is not against a flat surface i will need to make sure i have a pocket also.
steve

Steve it is flat on the machine I don't reall know whu it is the way it is the other side is the same. One have the brass in it with a wiper on top and the brass in the rest. I don't see any reason it can't have the felt on all sides.

The only thing I can see there is a bigger hole for oil ti pump in or drain out. I did run it some this morning to see if oil would come out od the hole and it didn't. So I think it mite be a drain back to the sume.

The way measures 11/16.

now the original design makes sense the voids around the wiper were to direct the oil to the return
If this is an oil return hole i need to have a passage so the oil can get to the drain.
i'll cut a slot on the inside for it and probably mail the test parts monday.

you may want to make sure the return holes are open the wipers were plugged up with sludge.

well i had a sleepless night now that i have seen your machine and the fact that oil is pumped up to the way. so i did a little more thinking about your way wiper and some research on this design and other machines with wipers and my idea to install a rope seal is not a good one because any oil that got by would run down the front of the machine.
I flipped the pic over the way it fits on the machine and put a red arrow on the original. if you look you can see the housing is lower than the brass wiper behind it more than i put on mine (white arrow) the reason it is supposed to be that low is to let a drop sized amount of oil pass the housing on the return stroke and hit the wiper making it fall off and return to the sump. if it was taller it would hit the housing and run down the front of the machine.
i have already cut the grove and installed rope seals in the ones i made but its not the right way to do this so i am going to send you the aluminum ones and all i want to know is if they line up and bolt on. also on the bottom of the pic there is a red arrow on the aluminum one i need to know how close it lines up with the bottom of the way. i'd prefer to make this so you can file it to just clear. I think they intended to keep a good film of oil on the bottom of the way and thats why its not felt but not enough to drip off. so the metal wiper just skims below the way to remove anything big enough to drip. I'm going to make the brass ones exactly like the one that is still intact with the wipers mounted in the center to direct the oil to the return hole. and return slots on both sides of the wipers to catch any remaining oil on the return stroke.
I hope that made sense, I tend to over think things...
click on the pics my arrows are hard to see

I'll check them out as soon as I get them and let you know. In the ones on the other side the brass was missing also, So I'll need to get some and make those. The return lines are open so I guess it just a build up of sludge from who knows how long.

i'll send you a piece of brass for the other one, i have some you can make work.
