Parting 1144SR

Ok, awesome, thank you. I will have to get some square stock

What would be the best steel grade to make a holder out of?

Just want to say thanks to everyone for responding. I too am an avid high powered air gun collector. Love my pcps.while I have everyone’s attention let me ask one more question regarding boring bars. I got a cheap Chinese set of metric micro bars but can’t seem to find an axa tool holder small enough. Where should I be looking. Thanks
I use a boring bar tool holder and make a sleeve. I drill the rod of metal, in my case it's 3/4" diameter for an AXA with the diameter of the boring bar. Then I slit the sleeve along its length. I've made several of them, 3/8", 1/2", 6mm, and another for some small micro100 carbide tools. If I'm feeling fancy, I'll ream the hole. Works great for all boring, threading and grooving tools.

I make the sleeve out of 12L14, but that's what I have in 3/4" diameter. Any steel will work. I use an AXA-4D boring bar holder. I like it because it uses a split rather than pinch points to hold the bar. I make the sleeves as long as the holder, about 3" long.
