OXA 250 QCTP or Original Lantern Tool Post

Who has used the OXA QCTP and the Lantern Tool post with their Atlas/Craftsman 6" lathe? I'm wondering which will give more rigidity as well as a better cut? I have a lantern tool post but do not have half-moon (woodruff key style) that goes with it. Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks

I have no experience with a lantern tool post so really can't compare, but the general view around here
is that a QCTP is the way to go. One thing to keep in mind about OXA tool posts is that some of them
are made from aluminum. If you get one it would be a good idea to find one made of steel since they
should be the more rigid choice.

I just removed this from a drawer a HSS bits . If it's what you need , it's yours .

Yes I do have the steel QCTP.

I bought a set of tool holders for my Atlas/Craftsman 6 x 18 from Clausing before the OXA was available. They are essentially blocks which bolt to the compound and they lack the vertical adjustment of a QCTP but they do improve rigidity and I use them almost exclusively. However, don't throw away the lantern type tool post. It has setup flexibility that can't be achieved with a QCTP.

I have a boat load of these lantern type holders most likely bigger than what you need also . Not sure of the oxa sizes .
