I require some help with understanding oil seal sizing. Is sizing an oil seal similar to o-rings, in that the material is not sold in the precise dimension of the shaft to be sealed and the pocket the seal is to be installed in?

I have a shaft diameter of 0.875" and a pocket OD of 1.375" and a depth of 0.25"

My usual bearing supplier carries oil seals, and when I search their imperial sizes the closest I can find is a garter spring type seal with the following dimensions. It is clear to me that this is really a metric seal based on the sku. The metric size does not correspond to the imperial size given, so there must be a mistake somewhere.

However, I want to know if the imperial size given would seal my shaft properly, or would the seal wear prematurely due to the slight undersize or is this meant to stretch like an o-ring?

Leave it to SKG to provide quality engineering data... that I can understand. Too bad it is for a simple vee type nitrile seal. I want high performance seals
