I save my belts for the leather when they are used up.
I never know when I'll need a piece of leather for something. I've made brakes out of them, hinges., etc.
I've noticed that the last few have been tearing , rather than just wearing out.
Well I took one and separated the sewing and found I could rip the leather ???? by hand.
Not leather.. paper with a leather (ultra thin) looking topping. I have never been able to rip leather ..
Either I am getting stronger or.. some company or country is lying.

LOL , real leather belts ( for holding your pants up ) are on FBMP and are pretty cheap . Guarenteed for life . Guess they found a niche in the market .

I don't buy edge stitched belts any more. I ran into the same issue.

well, thankfully, I am on suspenders for work pants. Although I just discovered really crappy buttons. Gotta order the high priced ones.. As the cheap ones are ruining my new pants. The buttons are nailed on. Bought a set of 20 for the price of 8 the CarHartt's are. This time I lost. Useless things.
Gonna buy the CarHartt's I wish they are the suspender store sold more than 8 per pack and discounted them.

There's a difference between :telling the truth" and "not lying"...

Here's a good summation of what's going on

I quit smoking twice , once for 8 months , once for 6 months . Gained weight up to 185 Lbs each time . My entire life I weighed 170+or- 2 lbs . Both times started back up at the camp in NY and wore 2 pairs of different suspenders after losing weight back down to my normal . Still have them in a drawer but I'm settled in at 170 now for 10 years or so .

Google "Hanks belts " . Seems like they're the real thing .

I suspect the defence would be that yes, it is genuine leather. But only two very thin skins of it, not through-and-through as we would assume from the statement.
I discovered the same thing a couple years ago and couldn’t believe it either. Like, who the heck wants a paper belt? Anyhow, there are real (and homogenous) leather belts out there, they’re just harder to find.
Funny story — I was at the Thrift store yesterday looking at belts and saw one labelled “100% polyvinyl chloride Made in XXXX”. I almost bought it just because they were being honest about it!
