We dont have fire ants here, but we do have some huge ground nests of whatever ants we do have.

Always wanted to try this, but we have a lot of trees and therefore tree roots so Im skeptical of how good of a result I would have.

If you have peat underground, might not be a great idea to do. Underground peat or coal fires have a way of going on for years, popping up in strange places and causing fires above ground. My area doesn't have underground peat or coal nearby, but I'm sure there are some areas in PA and in other states.
