My new quick change tool post

Love the design. Definitely, as said, thinking outside the box. I also am curious why the slope instead of horizontal?
One thing with any design is you need to start somewhere and keep refining it after all that is why they make rev marks. :))

Have a great day!

The slope allows the tool holder to center itself on the work. You start with the bit a little bit high and then when the tip pushes against the ruler next to the work it automaticaly lowers as you run the slide in.
The screw on the front was to hold a flag like device that would swing out and allow for easy setting of center. When i accidentaly discovered the spring allowed the bit to center itself the flag was a waste of time. The 8 degree slope of course must be considered when grinding the bits. For aluminum the 8 degree back rake would be fine but for steel or brass you may not want any back rake. Every one has their own ideas for how to grind bits,
And nothing says you always have to use this holder. for instance i have a seperate cut off holder and borCopy of right side.jpging bar holders. They have no adjustment for height. I always use them on center so i built them to always be on center.
Never the less i would like for some others to build a prototype like this and see if we can improve on the design. immagine a world were each bit does not require a 40 dollar holder. Believe me you are never going to see this tool for sale, they like the pressent system of expensive holders.

Thanks for your explanation.
I hope it works perfect for you and others can use it because it is a good idea.
I use QCTP and just made myself more tool holders.
If something else like this idea were around or I would have esed my head I would be using something different.
Have a great day!

A suggestion:
Trim down the holding bolt and use an acorn nut with a lever attached to it's side to give the holder a more finished look and also eliminate the need for a wrench.
Each unit would need the bolt/nut installed to know where to attach the release handle. Shim washers could be installed under the nut to put the handle where the enduser wants it. A cheap place to get crome acorn nuts is the auto junk yards, or your local parking lot.
:dunno:

Alternatively, you could use a threaded star-handle knob to make it even easier ...
