Miter Gear Cutting

Have you looked at the use of a shaper setup to "Generate" the gears?
I think with some effort it could be done on a vertical mill but probably wouldn't be a good use of time. Too much effort to determine and connect the gearing.
I'm sure someone has done it on a horizontal mill.

One of those jobs that is relatively easy on a shaper is cutting bevel gears.
 
A vertical mill can be used along with a rotary table to make miter gears. Here's an example of
one I made for my drill chuck.P1020130.2.JPG
The one on the right I made using a vertical mill and the one on the left I took measurements from. I didn't get
out a trig book or a Machinery's Handbook, just used the usual unorthodox outside the box thinking along with
some Git-R-Done energy.
