I need to make a quarter rib for a .404 Jeffrey I am building. Does anyone have any drawings, plans, thoughts or suggestions on how to do this, especially matting the underside of the quarter rib to the barrel.
I would think one could play with a ball end mill and a tapered set up to closely approximate the taper of a barrel. close enough after some hand fitting to solder I would think. Just an idea. You could turn a mandrel same as barrel to put some abrasive cloth in and use that for fitting the rib base after removing most excess material. Look forward to seeing what you do.
Check out Colin Stolzer's web site. Colin is an excellent Master Gunmaker and shares his knowledge with everyone. He shows how he fits the ribs on some of his single barrel builds. Caution: the site will suck you in. Be prepared to lose a few hours.
Thanks for all the advice. I discovered that I can buy a Dakota quarter rib designed for the barrel contour I am using for about $70. I decided that I couldn't make one for that.
