Magnetic Chuck - Testing and Troubleshooting Questions

I think one of the reasons they're typically not topped-off with oil, is because it will eventually leak out of the operating lever thru-hole. I've not seen a unit with a bearing to support the shaft so, a good deal of pressure invariably ends-up on the seal.

Oh, no need for admiration -not in the least. I live to take things apart and have a pretty good track record of successful reassembly...

I'm really sorry yours is putting up so much struggle and in a way, I feel badly since it was my suggestion to take it apart. On the flip side though, it was previously not usable so at the least, it's a learning experience...

Hi Ray, I know this is a very old post but I’m in the middle of rebuilding a walker Ceramax 6 x 18 Chuck and I’m in need of a couple parts. The cam that goes through the lower body and the cam the lever handle attaches to. Both are worn slap out. Wasn’t sure if you had a source for parts or if you were able to successfully make these parts. Thanks

I noticed your note to Ray and it brought back memories approx 30 years ago when I had to make cams for my 6x18 walker chuck without any idea of knowing what it should look like, after many tries I finally made one to work and it stills works today. the PO had made one that didn't work and threw the original one away. hope you get a good one made---I know how frustrating it can be to disasemble and reassemble many times till you get it to work.

The offset for the cam should equal the distance between the segments on the face of the chuck.

Hi and thank you for that info. I was a little worried about that offset and wasn’t sure how to duplicate it. Got some 1144 SR steel ordered for the parts. Should see it in a day or two

Hi Dave, seems that these parts have been made many times by many people, lol. This will be my first attempt at making something like this. Hoping everything goes smoothly.
