In search of a good Steady Rest (Finished)

Re: In search of a good Steady Rest

Yeah, Bill. We're still watching. Your steady is going to be beautiful.

Re: In search of a good Steady Rest

OK Bill, that definitely IS scary.

Why not just make a counter-bore and do it in the drill press?

Tom

Re: In search of a good Steady Rest

That's the problem with wood, it seems solid enough but resonates like crazy (think violins and guitars). Single pointing the c-bores could quickly get out of hand. :yikes:

Probably a good idea to wait for the c-bores.

Re: In search of a good Steady Rest

You could step grind a twist drill into a piloted square bottomed drill and use it for a c'bore. Or perhaps an end mill could be used to stab the counterbore. I hate waiting on tools.

Re: In search of a good Steady Rest

Nice score Bill! Now get to work. :p:biggrin: It's looking great so far.

Re: In search of a good Steady Rest

Looking good Bill, Now all you need is a welder and a power coating out fit always need more tools.. I'm using a old house stove for a oven.

I haven't done any in awhile I need to do some I guess.

Hope to see the finished steady rest soon.
