Horror Story Using Water-Based Coolant

When I was in high school back in the 60's I worked in a fairly large machine shop, about 100 machinists, and I had the very important jobs like sweeping the floors and cleaning the sludge out of the machines. Some really gross looking and smelling stuff. Back then we just dumped the stuff out back which was pretty much a swamp (I think they are called "meadows" or "wetlands" today.) One interesting consequence was the swamp never froze in the winter, even years after the shop closed. I am quite sure that was just a coincidence!
I know one thing. I won't be using coolant unless I have someone else to clean out the tanks. I was done with that 40+ years ago.

my neighbor across the road got busted for dumping building supplies in the pond..turned out it was the contractor 20 years ago did it..they only noticed when we had a slow rain month.. they still made the neighbor pay for it since the contractor went bankrupt. he wasn't happy

This is one very big reason that smart companies tend to build on virgin land instead of reusing old brownfields. They can or will be stuck with the bill for the sins of the previous users. There should be a way to get a site survey that list all the problems found and start from there. Old is the new baseline, make a new problem you pay, but if you make paper airplanes let say, you should not be responsible for the radioactive waste left by the other guy making weapons grade materials.
