Dust collection for surface grinder

Bottom line up front, I hope I'm still welcome in your threads. If not, let me know and I'll make you the first member of my ignore list, but his may be helpful to you.

Here is a piece from one of my professional references that I use almost every day to help you determine the effectiveness of your system and to identify the optimal working range for your process. If you need interpretation, just ask.

Just a word of caution, keep an eye out for fires! It doesn't happen often but I have witnessed several fires in dry grinder dust collection systems.
( For some strange reason, it doesn't happen on wet grinders! )

Much like steel wool, steel grinding grit can burn. The sparks can ignite the built up grit in the wheel guard and in the collection hose. If your vacuum is real close to the grinder, the sparks may get into the vacuum.

It usually takes a lot of grinding to get a fire started and they usually are only a glow working it's way through the built up "tooth" on the wheel guard. I have seen some start in the hose and burn through it.

Not a big concern, but something to keep an eye on.

The dust separator is collecting dust. I think I'm going to put an inch of water in it when I use it and empty it right away. There is a pleasing little pile of dry dust in there right now. I barely used it so far.

The grinder would be a 6x12 or 6x18. Looks like a 12 but the table looks shorter than mine. It’s a Boyer Shultz?
