Drill / Mill Spindle-to-Pulley Spline Fit

what else would you have to work on if the problem was solved
considering the full time job, side hustle, and young family, I think my answer to that question is "sleep".

But I shimmed two of the six splines. It's an okay balance between performance and noise.

I'm considering ordering a full spindle pack (that's the spindle, quill, bearings, and spacers) from LMS and rebuilding to factory specs. I have another thread regarding Grizzlys version of my spindle not matching their drawing...and maybe that's been the issue the whole time. The $300 is far less than the amount of time I've put into getting this "perfect"... then again the new parts may exhibit the same issue.

status update:

I bought every part for the spindle, quill, and pulley housing from LMS and reassembled in two different ways:
  1. Exactly as I found it when I first disassembled, and
  2. Exactly as it's called out in the manual
And neither got rid of the rattling!

Long story short, having eliminated everything else I finally realized I'd never looked at the pulley on the motor. Sure enough, that thing was not in the same plane as the spindle pulley (so the belt was at a ~5 degree angle). I turned a 4mm thick spacer to level those out and it's back to normal. What a journey. Thanks for all of the troubleshooting help.

I'm glad you figured it out and you have a good machine now.
