Drawings for simple carbide insert toolholders. Anyone interested?

So do I, but I feel painfully inadequate. Did you get formal training? Any recommendation?

I just did the Alibre tutorial. Twice. It's got some weirdness to it.. But it's a hell of a lot cheaper than ProE.

Last time I looked, just about everything was cheaper than ProE!

I used ProE c/w the electrical schematic package when I was designing heavy trucks. Sure glad I didn't have to pay for it.

John,
You are a better man than me. I tried several times to follow the tutorials and draw the toilet paper holder or whatever it was. I failed at that so miserably it wasn't even funny. I guess I am just not CAD savvy when it comes down to it. Please dont forget to post up the drawings when you get em ready. If you run into a file size issue, send them to Nelson (Allthumbz) and he will upload them directly for you. Hope this helps.

Alibre...

What version of Alibre? I am looking for 3D CAD software that would fit the hobbiest needs and still in the three figure department. I see that there is Alibre Design Personal, Pro and Expert but only see the price for Personal and have no idea what the price for the other two are.

Don't feel too bad about that Bob. I've had TurboCAD Pro for many years now and I've never made it through a tutorial. Too mind numbing (or is that a numbed mind? :p).

OK. I'll post the drawings. I have drawings for profiling and RH turning toolholder completed. Still to go area LH and a 45 degree chamfer holder. I've already made all four and have been using them for months without a hitch.

I'm up to my eyeballs this week with work and a D1-4 to 5C collet head I'm making, hence I dont expect drawings to be complete until this weekend.

If you want to make some, get some 1/2 x 5/8 CRS or tool steel stock and stand by. I made mine from W1, but there's no reason why plain steel couldn't be used. The absolute hardness of an insert holder is second to its rigidity...

I'm using Pro... Alibre has strange behaviors and less than great documentation, but I get by.
