Do I need ER collets?

Actually, he's a metal lathe guy that is making stuff for the wood lathe people. He is a real nice guy and has been in business many years. The things I have bought from him have always been top quality. I am quite sure that if you contact him, he would discuss the specs on them.

No connection other than having bought from him off and on for years.

I am not familiar with Beall Tools. It looks like they specialize in wood lathes. I would be a bit concerned that their ER32 collet holder may not exhibit the precision (TIR) needed for metal without more info

Price looks reasonable. I take it "complete" means collet closer not needed? This may be just what I need for my south bend 9A. Assume it will hold work as well as endmills.

Thanks

Dave

complete means already made up.It's about 200.00. You don't need a collet closer, just a spanner wrench to tighten the nut.

The other option is a kit you machine yourself.
It will hold work also.
You might be able to get an ER 40 chuck from him, you have to call.
But I think I am just going to go with a ER 32.

The "reasonable" price is for the kit.

Here is the made up one, it's $160.00, Not $200.00

I am glad to hear that because my first option is to try to make my own from Tallgrass (he provided me an ER40 kit) but it looks pretty challenging for this neophyte. If I end up screwing that up, the Beall chuck looks like a great second choice ( even though it is ER32 instead).

There is nothing really hard about it. Two threads and one angle. You can buy a closer nut separately.

Doubleboost has a really nice video series showing him make one on youtube

Here is the first one:

I am interested in the ER collet system. What type of chuck is available for a D1-4 set up?
