Could use some guidance setting up my ATW Pacemaker

I believe I followed the video correctly. Results from the two collar test on 2.5” 1018. Total stick out is 8”. Took a 0.002 pass.

Head - 2.33030
Tail - 2.33215
Δ 0.00185 over 7”

Might get better results using HSS instead of carbide.

I know you are right. I don't have any HSS. I did experiment with using three different carbide insert tools. Here are the results:

WC
2.32690
2.32750
Δ 0.0006

VC
2.32525
2.32515
Δ 0.0001

SC
2.32145
2.32225
Δ 0.0008

All of these are on that same test bar, about 7" apart. This is plenty good enough for this new guy. Thank you for the pointers. I'm calling this done for now. I'm really happy with the lathe!

Good to hear. I have no idea what the above means, the only carbide I have is brazed and used in a flycutter.

Those are three different insert shapes.

Fun video of how we unloaded the lathe.

I unloaded my Monarch lathe the same way when I was in my old shop.

What sort of parts are you planning to make that require any care about what comes after the third decimal? It's a lathe, not an ID/OD grinder. Jmo.
Let me get my fire suit on, I might be about to get flamed. Lol

The night before we unloaded it I was looking around online at other Pacemakers and came across a video of a guy unloading with his two post lift. It worked really well. Unloaded my Acra 16x40 using the same method.

EXACTLY! I was learning how to level a lathe and also how to check for level. I don't care about tenths, at all. It was a fun exercise and I learned some valuable stuff.
