Would you guys give me some guidance on choosing a collet set up? I have a Logan / Wards 2130, #3 morse taper head, 1 1/2 x 8 threaded spindle. I am confused about collet systems ie, morse taper collet closers, collet chuck, bar closing sollet holder, 3c collets, 5c collets, er40 and on and on.

Please just point me in the right direction. Also, this is strictly for home hobby use. If my Logan is running 2 hours a week, I have been really busy.

Thanks,

Thanks guys! The hole thru the spindle is about an inch. I have some 3/4 stock trued in the chuck now that is going thru the spindle and there's not much room left.

If you just need small sizes and don't need pass-through, you can get one of the small Mt3 sets for about $55
I have one for a minilathe and another with my Atlas 618
Works fine within it's size limitations. They use an ER-type collet, but I don't believe they are a standard size, unless "Chinese" is a standard ;)

My 10" Enco lathe has a Hardinge wheel-type collet closer for 5C collets.
That works real well, and collets are cheap
