Well, I have a Mitutoyo old style drop indicator mag holder, and a cheap HF mag holder. I have to much respect for MIT to use it for holding a chip guard. And then thinking about it, do I want to attract swarf to the mag. So do I do a mag holder, or make a weighted holder? Which may not be good for lets say the lathe.

dilema #2, do I use the black holder to mount the plexi or lexan, or do I machine the top holder to just take it right in the holder.. eliminate the ears (put a slot in place), use the hole, and add some plastic to clamp it,

decisions decisions... it's always easy to help you guys, you just throw ideas out and see what sticks for the person you are helping.

Now, I need some ideas... so I don't trash this and then come up with an idea later...
What ideas do you guys have?

You definitely want to use the magnetic holder. Gives you options. For instance, I sometimes stick mine to the headstock.
As for which holder, just because it has "Mitoyo" on a label, doesn't mean it is anything more than a magnet inside a case iron box.
And I use motorcycly helmet faceplates. Old/scratched ones. And I just drill a 1/4" hole and use the indicator hardware to hold them. Works just fine.
