Chewed up live centers

So I installed a new 4 jaw self centering chuck I had laying around. Re aligned tailstock. And getting same result. I also tested the spindle face and thats all good

Either bore a 60 degree champher on your pipe or run a plug in the end .

I am thoroughly baffled about why your centres mark/gall so easily.
I have been using a live centre in the tail stock that was offset by .179'' for turning a long taper.
With an offset like this the work rocks on both the headstock and tailstock centres.
Neither centre shows wear as bad as shown in the above video. Of course there was a small 60 deg. chamfer on each end and both centres were greased because of the obvious rubbing that would occur.
The only explanation I could imagine for your situation is that you run too much pressure on the centres or heat build up in the work caused it to expand and put undue pressure on the centres. In my limited experience it has always been tricky to keep the right pressure on centres as heat builds up and requires a few adjustments during the cutting operation. I would try grease on the centres and lighter pressure.
